Next adventure: Campania, Italy!

Campania is a region in southwestern Italy known for its ancient ruins, national parks and dramatic coastline making it a diverse landscape of historic wonder and beauty. We will fly in-out of Naples which is a vibrant city with great restaurants, museums, lively evening port scene and just a ‘stone’s throw’ from Pompeii and Herculaneum. Naples makes a perfect weekend destination to plan on your own before the start of the cycling tour.   

We will commence the tour mid-morning Monday 5/17 at a winery in the scenic foothills of Mt. Vesuvius. Whether coming directly from the Naples airport that morning or from downtown Naples or Pompeii hotels, this should be an “easy get to” at our own expense. Our bike support crew led by Sebastian will meet us upon arrival to get our bikes set-up followed by a relaxed “meet & greet” lunch. Afterwards, we’ll change into cycling gear, take a deep breath - or better two - and get to it. Mt Vesuvius, that is! 😉

But that’s just the start as Campania has so much more to offer! We will travel east after conquering Vesuvius to get us closer to the region’s center for our first evening stay. This will be our gateway point to cycle south through parts of the Parco Nazionale with views and climbs which rival Colorado. After several segments of challenging terrain, we will say “ahhh!” as we crest that final hill seeing “nothing but blue” in front of us. At that point, we work our way back north hugging the coastline and enjoying quaint seaside towns with optional dips in the sea, until we reach our final destination: the “crowned jewel” Amalfi coast.
