Cycling Trip to Sicily, Italy 

Dear Cyclists,

We recently adventured through magical Tuscany and soaked in spectacular views (and wine) before departing for home with precious memories to savor. It was a challenging landscape to cycle but the scenery remains hard to match anywhere in the world – well worth any climbing suffering endured. 😉 

Land of my own ancestors, rustic, historic, romantic and a 'hot and trendy' travel destination more than ever thanks to The White Lotus Season 2 and the 2022 Paramount television series The Offer about the challenges movie producer Al Ruddy and Francis Ford Coppola faced trying to produce "The Godfather".   And by the way,  we will visit those scenic locations Francis chose for those dramatic scenes during our trip.     

Located smack in the middle of the Mediterranean, the Italian region of Sicily is a ‘product’ of thousands of years of occupation by various warring tribes and empires such as the Greeks, the Moors, the Normans and the Romans. The look-and-feel of Sicily today remains flush with remnants of that history with ruins, art, architecture, food, traditions and customs reflecting this unique melding of civilizations dating back to ancient times. 

As google states “The best time to visit Sicily is from May to June when it is warm & sunny with very little rain”.    We are choosing May 19-25, 2024 to provide us the option to stay longer on our own to enjoy the long Memorial Day weekend overseas.  For those wanting to return home for the holiday weekend, the May 25 Saturday afternoon flight will be ideal and the group bus to the Palermo airport will be scheduled to accommodate.  As always, we will plan aggressively to reach as many of the “must see” Sicily spots as our bodies & fitness level can handle.  Broad stroke plan:  depart from US airport May 19 and arrive into Catania Monday May 20 for the group “meet & greet”.   Towns we will stay in:  Palermo, Agrigento, Ragusa, Siracusa and Taormina.  As much as possible, we will try to stay evenings on the coastline to provide beach/ocean swim opportunities.  Group bus  will be planned Saturday May 25 to take us from our final hotel in Palermo to the Palermo Airport.  Cycling estimated at: 325-350 miles/ 20,000 elevation and don't skimp on your hill training as we will indeed climb the Giro route up Mt. Etna! :)  The specific trip details -hotels, restaurants and final routes- will be posted here as they unfold in the weeks ahead but don’t wait to reserve because spots are already filling up.

Trip Cost:

 *$3995 per person (single room) or $3795 if doubling up. Flight costs not included. We will have at least two support vehicles to watch over our group to shuttle riders for any reason.   

- All-inclusive in the pricing:  ground transport to-and-from Palermo Airport and Catania airports.  Rental race bike,  single rooms in hotels, all breakfasts, all lunches, all dinners, water, beer and wine during meals.  Supplements for E-bikes (add $350), Carbon bikes (add $300) , helmets (add $20)and course loaded GPS (add $50). 

Save your spot:   First come/first serve and we can manage a group max of 36.  Deposit $500:  to PV Sports and Wellness as per below.
